Project Feature “The Trout House”
Nestled amidst the natural beauty of northern Michigan lies The Gremel Group’s Trout House Training and Retreat Center – a haven for professional development and relaxation. A key feature of this stunning retreat is a unique biergarten, boasting raised bed vegetable and flower gardens. But the real showstopper is the vibrant LiveWall®, a testament to both innovative design and a commitment to creating a visually stimulating environment.
Andy Gremel, Principal of The Gremel Group, envisioned a space that not only offered functionality but also possessed a captivating aesthetic. The existing raised bed gardens provided a touch of greenery, but Andy and his wife, Meredith (a Master Gardener!), desired a more prominent focal point. After exploring various options, they discovered LiveWall®.
“We wanted something colorful, easy to maintain, and something that would seamlessly integrate with the irrigation system we were already installing,” explains Andy. “An additional benefit was the placement of the LiveWall – it’s perfectly positioned for guests and staff to admire it from the comfort of the Trout House windows.”
LiveWall® Delivers on Multiple Fronts:
The Gremel Group’s LiveWall® isn’t just visually captivating; it embodies several key benefits:
- Stunning Aesthetics: Lush green and variegated Coleus provide the base, while a vibrant red Begonia swathe winds through it, resembling a meandering trout stream. This design not only adds a pop of color but also pays homage to the nearby Pere Marquette River, a major draw for visitors to the area.
- Easy Maintenance: The LiveWall® system integrates effortlessly with the existing irrigation setup, minimizing upkeep requirements.
- Enhanced Enjoyment: The strategic placement of the LiveWall® ensures guests and staff can experience its beauty both inside and outside the Trout House.
Collaboration Makes the Dream a Reality:
The Gremel Group emphasizes that the success of their LiveWall® project was a collaborative effort.
“LiveWall® made the process incredibly smooth,” says Andy. “They connected us with a skilled installer, facilitated plant selection, and even designed the river-inspired pattern we envisioned. They provided the initial plant set, and it’s incredible how well they’ve thrived – we even had to give them a mid-season trim!”
More Than Just a Wall:
The Trout House LiveWall® is a shining example of how vertical gardens can enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of a space. It’s a testament to Andy and Meredith’s vision, the expertise of the LiveWall® team, and the enduring power of incorporating nature into built environments.
LiveWall® can be seamlessly integrated into existing designs, prioritizing both visual appeal and ease of maintenance. The Trout House LiveWall® serves as an inspiration for anyone looking to add a touch of nature and vibrant color to their own space.
