Dave MacKenzie, owner and inventor of LiveWall, entered into ArtPrize for his second time in 2014 with the planted wall entry entitled Breathe. The largest graphic in Breathe faces east and includes a windblown pattern in which the white flowers spell Breathe O2 (oxygen), and symbolize air.
The living art entry also included four large leaf-patterns, representing Michigan native tree leaves.
This installation extended taller than the prior year, Back to Eden. Breathe measured 22 feet tall at its peak and nearly 150 feet long. Choosing and pairing the plants was a challenge, but also part of the fun. Nearly 3,500 annual, perennial and tropical plants formed the living wall pattern.
