ArtPrize 2013 Back to Eden Living Wall Art

Audiences at the 2013 ArtPrize Festival were taken ‘Back to Eden’ with Dave MacKenzie’s living wall entry.  The abstract work of art contained more than 2,500 plants.  The wall reached 11 feet in height and 130 feet in length, at approximately 1400 square feet.

The wall featured colorful annual plants, cold-hardy perennials, tropical plants like bromeliads, and even some edibles like kale and strawberries.

The installation offered the added benefit of hiding the air conditioning mechanical equipment, recycling, and waste bins for the neighboring entertainment and dining complex.  This greatly reduced the noise from the equipment, and practically eliminated the odors from the dumpsters.  The artists and voters appreciated the difference that the green wall made in their ArtPrize experience.

ArtPrize 2013 exposed hundreds of thousands of festival goers to green wall technology.
